To start off the new year with a Bam!, our first BOTM of this new year will be the well known murder mystery novel One Of Us Is Lying, by Karen M. McManus. This novel was published in 2017 and recently adapted into a movie in 2021 due to the overwhelming positive response. This book will leave you questioning every move and cause you to be suspicious of every character as it goes through the different standpoints of four teens, all who witnessed the death- possibly murder- of Simon. The ending of the book leaves you with hunger for more and with a twist that is hard to have imagined. And it all just started with four teenagers, each with their own separate lives and hardships, entering a detention classroom. The changes and growth in all the characters throughout the book as they are forced to age and view the true injustices of the world while the world watches them as if they are a show on TV. Or a book- in our case. They all are suspects and could all be guilty, as each of them holds a personal motive against Simon. Join All Booked in reading, discussing, and speculating about this ground breaking novel throughout the month- and at our first monthly meeting of 2022!

Here is the official summary of this book:

Pay close attention and you might solve this.

On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.

Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.

Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.

Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.

Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.

And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High's notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn't an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he'd planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who's still on the loose?

Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

I would rate this book without doubt with a five star and I hope you all enjoy the book all the same! Looking forward to discussing and speculating with you all :)
