The Perks of Being a Wallflower

By: Stephen Chbosky

Review by: Ishita Shukla

❝The perks of being a wallflower is a poignant read which consists of letters to an anonymous reader by Charlie, a high school student, hoping the reader will understand his troubles. The book has such an intimate approach to high school traumas; troubles of an important transition from middle school to high school and curiosities of every teen. Being a high school student, I could relate to lots of events that Charlie goes through. The story is simple yet successful in covering all parts of life of a traumatised teenager. It includes the world of sexuality curiosity, drugs, sex, mental health etc. Charlie makes numerous attempts to “participate” which makes him to go through a series of house parties, Rocky Horror Picture Show, with his new, older friends. I am sure as you go through these adventures with Charlie, you will feel infinite. This book is highly recommended an avid YA novel reader. It’s a unique book for all teenagers covering the spectrum from introvert to extrovert. It’s so quiet and discreet with a very intimate approach. It will be a wonderful read for anyone who wants to develop a habit of reading or is deeply interested in books.❞

❝More Than Maybe is a novel that builds on the foundation of music. The musical references throughout the book to well-known and fun songs made the writing style very enjoyable. Songs play an enormous role in the lives of both the characters and as they navigate through their own relationships, music guides them along the way. The supporting characters and main characters were described really well and the reader had a personal feel for all the characters. My personal favorite character was Zach and my favorite part of the book was the writing style of the texts. Both characters texted each other songs that convey their emotions- instead of words at some point in the book. They used music to tell the story and it made the read one of my favorites. The characters were developed and in situations, the sharing of songs was perfect and relevant. I could weirdly describe this book as 'adorable' and a sweetly good read that made me smile throughout. I recommend this book to readers looking for a short, sweet, light-hearted read. Especially to those who love music along with reading, I can almost promise an attachment to this story.❞
